Does moving towards renewable energy causes water and land inefficiency? An empirical investigation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study investigates the effect of renewable energy production on water and land footprint in 58 developed and developing countries for the period of 1980–2009. Utilizing the ecological footprint as an indicator, the fixed effects, difference and system generalized method of moment (GMM) approaches were employed and eight different models were constructed to achieve robustness in the empirical outcomes. Despite the use of different methods and models, the outcome was the same whereby GDP growth, urbanization, and trade openness increase the water and land footprint. Moreover, renewable energy production increases the water and land inefficiency because of its positive effect on ecological footprint. Additionally, based on the square of GDP it is concluded that the EKC hypothesis does not exist while the square of renewable energy production indicates that renewable energy production will continue to increase water and land footprint in the future. From the outcome of this study, a number of recommendations were provided to the investigated countries. & 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملMethodological Framework for Determining the Land Eligibility of Renewable Energy Sources
The quantity and distribution of land which is eligible for renewable energy sources is fundamental to the role these technologies will play in future energy systems. As it stands, however, the current state of land eligibility investigation is found to be insufficient to meet the demands of the future energy modelling community. Three key areas are identified as the predominate causes of this;...

The purpose of this study is to investigate landuse changes in Gorganrood basin in 2001, 2010 and 2019. Using Landsat and Product-Modes satellite images, used maps were prepared using the classification method of random forest algorithm in Google Earth Engine. Satellite imagery was classified into eight classes including forest, cropland, shrubland, grassland, wetland, urban, barren, and water....
متن کاملInvestigation of vessels pressure effect on PEM electrolyzer performance by using a new OneDimensional Dynamic Model
In recent years energy shortage and environmental impacts due to consuming fossil fuels have led to developing renewable energy sources systems. Since these sources are not reliable and are usually time dependent, an energy storing system like hydrogen production is required. In this regard, PEM electrolyzer can be efficiently used to decompose liquid water into hydrogen and oxygen. Because of ...
